I remember hearing ages ago how having a lot of cores/threads available from your CPU is stupid because games can only use one thread at once (unsure if this is even still true), but would multiple clients running at once benifit from more cores/threads? Like if I'm comparing a i5-8400 (6 cores/6 threads) to a Ryzen 7 1700 (8 cores/16 threads), would the Ryzen be able to run (a lot) more clients at once?

My motherboard died so I'm considering getting a beefier CPU and new Mobo.

Also taking CPU/mobo recommendations. I'm currently using a i5 3750k from like 6 years ago. Was still ok overall but could use an upgrade.

Also idk if this would belong better in general discussion, if a mod wants to move it there feel free.
