I downloaded the Mac version and ran through the installation. When I try to open Runemate, nothing happens.

Try using the stand-alone (.jar) version of the client. You can find it on Download | RuneMate

Do I just download the stand-alone and run it? Or do I have to do any file manipulation?

Assuming you already downloaded the latest version of Java, you simply run it, yeah

May I ask what Java version are you running as well as what macOS version you have?

He did not. However I can advise you to keep your RuneMate application out of the application folder and make sure it is in the same folder the resource folder (called RuneMate) is located in.

Mmm Yosemite. I'm on Sierra. Apple added System Integrity Protection on El Capitan. Even though I don't think it affects anything, I'll try disabling it totally.
I don't understand why it works with Yosemite but not in Sierra.

Did you get it working that it simply runs RuneMate, or can you actually bot? I.e. when you press "start instance" no error comes up and the bot starts running.
