Would we think of the bug as a client bug first? Or should we assume that it's the bots problem?

Just asking because as soon as a problem arises it seems to take over the majority of bot threads with the same problem and I can imagine how annoying it could be for authors to find the same notifications for their scripts bots reported as bugs but are actually a client based problem

Yes, that is the best way to do so. I do not think Bot Authors mind bringing issues to the developers' attention. It's better than asking our end-users to try to figure out who to report the issue to.
