not sure if i misunderstood your suggestion but is that not the same as BeastOfBurden#getItems(filter)? Use a Filter which checks for name and call QueryResults#size() to get the quantity- dog_

Can you make this take into account the current level? It always sets the plane in the coordinates as 0 (For Rectangular Area's at least)- dog_
