Don't create multiple threads.

The first time you "unlocked" the vault, no password was set, so you would have set a password for it. You need to enter that password to unlock the vault and unencrypt your stored game account credentials.

This exact thing happened to me. I've never touched the vault but I logged on and the vault was randomly locked and prompted me for a password. This must be some kind of bug because I swore to myself Id never set a vault password exactly because I didnt want it to lock me out.

runemate sets a vault password if you don't do it yourself and saves it on your device. when you use runemate on another device, you are prompted for this password.

you can change the password on the device you previously used runemate on

It says it will deleted the accounts I have saved. Why would it do that without me telling it to? Not that I care anymore as that's unexceptable and I've moved onto Dreambot now.

because otherwise someone with malicious intent could simply open your runemate and take control of your accounts, that's what the vault is for

They would have to know my password and have email access for that.
Regardless, the current outcome I'm experiencing is the exact same as if someone had stolen my accounts.
Thankfully, those accounts were of low value, but this has shown me the danger of using Runemate.
I'm lucky. Others won't be.

He didn't save his RS username and/or password anywhere except inside RuneMate and is blaming RuneMate for this. RuneMate does indeed have a non-optional security measure in place that does not allow access to saved RS credentials except on the computer it is created on unless the user provides a Vault password they must then remember and provide on a second computer to decrypt their RS credentials locally. While we empathize with your circumstance we would advise not trying to use RuneMate as a password manager and instead using a proper password manager.

For more info on RuneMate Vault please see RuneMate User Guide | RuneMate Documentation.

"non optional security mesaure"
What is that supposed to even mean? If people never pick a password, and you generate one randomly for them and dont tell them what type of security is that, if anything thats actively taking peoples accounts away.
and some people use VMS and whatnot, and then cant recover their account because they need to decrypt their own passwords that got generated for them, that they were never told about? Why have a feature and not even tell people about it until it already happens? I just potentially lost 2/3 old accounts that I had saved and am very annoyed by this. It really does have the same effect as someone effectively stealing your accounts haha, not much loss they were not that leveled but still AM VERY VERY ANNOYED at this, and this has put me off of runemate, and as others have mentioned I think that dreambot might be preferable as to a site that changes peoples passwords for them and says simple "use your old account".
On linux it recognizes my PC as a different device every time I even log on, so how would that even work as a security measure, in reality your hurting your player base, not helping them.

im 99% sure it does tell you to set a password as well as the potential consequences if you dont - @party please confirm

this is not "stealing your accounts", runemate does not have your decryption password, it is stored locally on the device the vault was set up on

I think you may be misunderstanding how the security measure works. If you use multiple computers (or virtual machines) then you can set your own Vault password and provide it across all your computers (or virtual machines). The motivation for this is spelled out very clearly on RuneMate User Guide | RuneMate Documentation, which I recommend you (re-)read.
