The primary use case would be for item trackers in UIs, but there are probably others. It would be much nicer to be able to get the sprite directly from a spriteitem.
You can kinda do this using the jsCache class (but very hard and not straight forward) or use a g.e. api.

Re-read what I said. SpriteItem "sprites" are essentially just transformations/rotations of the model rendered in 2D.
